Description
The warehouses of up to 5 stories high along the the quayside of new Ross on the River Slaney indicates the huge importance of the town particularly in the 1800s when the area carried on a big business in the export of timber to North America. This was subsequently followed by being one of the major ports in the south of Ireland dealing with the huge exodus of imigrants to the USA and Canada folowing the 1840 famine.
