Artist's Description

Around the 1500s the Byrne Clan was the most powerful family in Wicklow and parts of Carlow. So much so that the English colonist authorities called the area in their administration documents and maps '' The O' Byrnes Country '' , the name still lingers on to this day with Byrne being the 5th most common family name in Ireland.
This scroll is handrawn and painted by Val Byrne, Chieftain Emeritus, Clan O'Byrne, originally descended from the Byrnes of Clonmore Castle, Co. Carlow.
