This noble pile was once home to one of my ancestors, Hugh Geangagh O'Byrne, chieftain of the Gabhal Rannelagh Byrnes .
The castle was '' rendered indefensible by Oliver Cromwells forces 1640 and is now just a sad decaying ruin.
